How to Send Print-Ready Artwork
A properly prepared design helps us produce a cleaner result and avoids unnecessary delays. Before sending your file, check the following:
Use the right file type
Vector files are best for logos, text and line graphics because
they can be resized without losing quality.
Preferred formats:
-
PDF
-
SVG
-
EPS
-
AI
High-resolution PNG, TIFF and JPEG files may also work well,
particularly for photographs.
Set the design to the finished size
Whenever possible, create your file at the size it will be printed. If the file is supplied at a smaller scale, tell us the intended finished dimensions.
Check the resolution
Raster images should ideally be 300 dpi at the finished print size. Images copied from websites or social media are often too small to print clearly.
Convert fonts to outlines
Convert text to outlines or curves before sending vector files. This prevents fonts from changing or being replaced when the design is opened on another computer.
Include bleed when needed
For designs that print right to the edge, extend the background beyond the cut line. A bleed of approximately 1/8 inch on each side is usually sufficient.
Keep important text and logos safely inside the cut line.
Use a transparent background
For logos or designs being printed directly onto acrylic, wood or another product,
send the file with a transparent background unless white is meant to be part
of the design.
A white box behind the design may print as white. Technology remains
unforgiving of implied intentions.
Check the COLOURS
Screens display colour using RGB, while printing commonly uses CMYK.
Some variation between the screen and the finished product is normal.
Exact colour matching should be discussed before production.
Send the original design file
Avoid sending screenshots, photographs of a design or images copied from a website. The original file will usually produce the best result.
Not sure whether your design is ready?
Send us what you have. We can review the file and let you know whether it is ready to print or needs adjustment. More involved design preparation or recreation may involve an additional charge.
